Strattera Dosing Information
Strattera should be initiated at a total daily dose of approximately 0.5mg/kg/day, maintained for a minimum of 7 days then titrated upwards. The recommended maintenance dose is approximately 1.2mg/kg/day. No additional benefit has been demonstrated for doses higher than 1.2mg/kg and the safety of doses over 1.8mg/kg has not been systematically evaluated.
Strattera Side Effects
With other drugs that affect brain monoamine concentrations, there have been reports of serious, sometimes fatal reactions (including hyperthermia, rigidity, myoclonus, autonomic instability with possible rapid fluctuations of vital signs, and mental status changes that include extreme agitation progressing to delirium and coma) when taken in combination with an MAOI. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Some cases presented with features resembling neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: weight loss decrease in sexual ability/desire (e. g. , impotence, ejaculation problems) difficulty urinating unusually fast/irregular heartbeat fainting This medication may rarely cause serious problems such as heart attacks or stroke. You may have suicidal thoughts or behavior while taking atomoxetine. Watch for symptoms of depression, unusual behavior, or thoughts of hurting yourself. Your doctor may need to check you at regular visits while you are taking this medication.
Before taking Atomoxetine
You should know that atomoxetine has caused severe liver damage in some patients. You should know that atomoxetine may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting when you get up too quickly from a lying position. To avoid this problem, get out of bed slowly, resting your feet on the floor for a few minutes before standing up. Avoid taking MAO inhibitors (e. g. , furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, selegiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine) within 2 weeks before or after treatment with this medication.
